A new study that asked 2,000 women the features they find most attractive in men has revealed that bald men are considered more desirable than those with hair.

Alongside a muscular physique, men with no hair rated more highly than those less follicly-challenged.

Perhaps explaining the appeal of movie stars like Jason Statham, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, and Vin Diesel, Jessica Leoni of Illicit Encounters, which commissioned the study, said “bald men are among the sexiest looking chaps out there”.

While attractiveness was “in the eye of the beholder”, she suggested that men who worry about losing their hair, should consider that it might work in their favour.

Of the 2,000 women who were asked about the most attractive features in men, 42 per cent of the respondents went for a muscular physique.

This was followed by a bald head (40 per cent), blue eyes (38 per cent), a beard (36 per cent), dark hair (31 per cent), and curly hair (30 per cent).

Other popular attributes included high cheekbones (26 per cent), blonde hair (22 per cent), green eyes (21 per cent), and a hairy chest (18 per cent).

Just 10 per cent of respondents said they like men with tattoos, while seven per cent were fans of piercings.

While men spending billions each year trying to reverse or cure their hair loss, the study suggest that men experiencing male pattern baldness could simply embrace it, and shave it all off.

According to researchers baldness evolved to signal a form of non-threatening social dominance.

Bald men are also thought to be more socially mature, intelligent, educated and honest compared with men who have a full head of hair.

Among other attributes, bald men are seen as having high levels of diplomacy and low levels of aggression.

The finding are backed up by study at the University of Pennsylvania last year that also men with shaved heads appear to be more masculine, more dominant, and in some cases may have greater leadership skills.

That study found that bald men who have a clean shaven head look much more groomed and create the impression that they are much more mature than others.

They also appear to not worry too much about their appearance while men who shave their heads were considered to be more self-confident.
